May 2025

A multi-city tour exploring Morocco’s rich musical traditions.

Join Lila Series for our fourth trip to Morocco as we explore the beauty of the country through its spiritual and folk music traditions.

2024 Tour Itinerary

From the southern coast of Agadir, to the sand dunes of the desert, to the ancient cities of Fez & Rabat, we will experience a wide spectrum of Morocco’s beauty.

In addition to visiting historical sites, roaming the bustling souks and stargazing in the Sahara, we have curated a series of unique experiences with musicians & masters from different regions that will immerse us into the sacred sounds and healing rituals of Morocco.

  • Welcome to Morocco!

We will start our tour in the coastal town of Agadir, located in the south & the hometown of your co-host, Samir Langus. Fly into Agadir on May 1st. One airport shuttle will be available to take people to the hotel at 2PM.

Day 1 - Upon arrival to the hotel, you'll meet the group and team for check-in, starting at 3PM. Once everyone arrives, we'll meet for our first dinner together & opening night.

Day 2 - After breakfast we will enjoy a relaxing morning at the beach and will have lunch by the coast.

Then we will head to Samir’s hometown of Ait Melloul where we will have a special musical experience.

We’ll go back to the hotel to reset and get ready for the evening. We’ll go out for dinner + have an evening of authentic Moroccan folk & Gnawa music at the local venue ‘Jazzawiya’.

  • Day 3 - After breakfast, we will begin our journey to the door of the desert, the city of Ouarzazate.

We will have a stop in the charming village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, before finishing our journey to our hotel.

After check-in, we'll enjoy an authentic local dinner together.

  • Day 4 - After breakfast, we will continue our journey deeper into the desert. We will stop in the Todra Gorges for a hike in the desert mountains. From there we will park our bus in the small village of Erfoud, where we will take our belongings and ride 4x4 vehicles to our desert camp. Once we arrive to the camp, we will enjoy a sunset + have dinner together and a relaxed evening.

Day 5 - There will be several activities to do while in the desert, such as visiting local villages, doing a safari, riding camels, and more. We will come back together for sunset, get ready for dinner and an evening of music from the local Gnawa musicians.

  • Day 6 - After an early breakfast, we will begin our journey to Fez. We will make several stops along the way. Then we will finish our journey to Fez by 6-7PM. We will check-in to our hotels and will have a free night to explore on our own.

Day 7 - All day activities in Fez. A free day to explore the city on our own with the support of local guides. A great day to do shopping and explore the old medina of Fez. We will meet together after dinner for a very special musical ceremony.

  • Here our journey culminates with a ‘Lila’ ceremony with one of the most revered Gnawa musicians in Morocco.

Day 8 - We will begin our journey back to the coast to the city of Rabat.

Our first day will be arriving at our hotel and exploring the nearby neighborhood. We'll have dinner in the area before going back to our hotel for some jamming on the rooftop.

Samir LanGus is a Grammy-nominated Musician, born and raised in the city of Ait Melloule, Morocco whose passion for music stems from the variety of street sounds of his city.

Samir began learning Gnawa, a traditional, spiritual trance music, when he was 8 years old from the Gnawa masters of Morocco.

Samir’s band uses traditional instrumentation such as the lute-like Sintir and the large castanet-type Krakebs to accompany its ancient chants, but his approach is resolutely innovative. It is a hypnotic take on this ecstatic, trance-inducing tradition which has enthralled and inspired generations of musicians from around the world.

Omar Aena is the founder of the Lila Series and is a world music DJ, community organizer and event producer based in NYC.

His passion is in bringing people together to experience higher states of consciousness through natural means; particularly through music and dance. He has hosted many events around the world, including retreats and group trips in Guatemala, Morocco and Turkey. He is also working on a docu-series about the roots of Ecstatic Dance, with each episode focusing on a particular traditional culture that integrates art & spirituality.

As a DJ he mixes together traditional world music with electronic sounds, with a particular focus on songs from his middle-eastern heritage.
