LILA FILMS
Cinematic Journeys into the World’s Sacred Music & Dance Traditions
LILA Films is a collection of documentary episodes showcasing cultures around the world that bridge spirituality with the arts.
These vignettes reveal how traditional cultures have used the arts (particularly music & dance) for spiritual communion, prayer and healing, and also show the evolution of these traditions and the challenges they are facing today.
FIRST EPISODE
L I L A
A Journey into the Gnawa Tradition of Morocco
“This music style is made for sick people,
if they need to heal from an internal sickness,
or if anyone is feeling bad,
they go to the “Lila”
and enjoy the rituals and dancing
to free themselves.”
SECOND EPISODE
S E M A
A Journey into Rumi & the Whirling Dervishes
“It is not ordinary music,
this dervish music, it is music,
you drink with your whole body,
your whole being,
and you live this music.”
